Farm News.............

I was able to take a ride in the combine as we harvested our organic feed corn that will feed our laying hens for the winter.

Look at that delicious corn harvested for our livestock.

This is a great step in being able to feed our livestock from
grain that we grew instead of buying it in.

If you drive down Millburn Road you may have noticed new trees being planted on the South side of the street. These are Sugar Maple Trees that will not only add beautification on Millburn Road but will one day be tapped for maple syrup!

We fenced them all to keep them safe from the abundant deer.
30 trees were planted this year
and we plan to do more next year!

Rosemary and Lavendar goat milk soap will be for sale on Saturday December 22nd.
Our three milking goats were hand milked all season twice a day. Some of the milk
was enjoyed by practicing our cheese making abilities and the rest was saved for soap making.

The rosemary that was used was grown by us and the lavendar was grown by a friend in Michigan.
All the ingredients used for these two varieties are organic and sustainably grown.
Enjoy!

See you all on Saturday December 22nd from 1 to 4pm

Welcome to the final week of your Fall CSA!

These final days of harvest and any field work that still remains will soon end another year for us at Tempel Farms Organics. As we look forward to our 5th growing year here we would like to thank all of you who were able to join our CSA this season and those of you who have been able to stop by our farm market stand. We went through quite a season of warmth and the constant moving of irrigation pipes so that we could make it through the drought that came our way. We saw an abundance of great quality produce harvested from our fields and then some unfortunate crops that we lost due to the weather such as purple carrots and celery root that we all looked forward for. It's known to farmers, as perhaps an inspiration, that no two years are the same. If Chris and I could do it all over again next year as we did this season we would do it in a heartbeat especially with having the people that formed our crew. Thank you to (pictured from left) Keegan, Michelle, Joe and Duncan, our main crew here for our 2012 season.
Joe, Chris and I will have a busy winter finalizing paper work for this season, ordering seeds for next year, setting goals for future growing plans, maintaining our chickens and goats, attending farming events, visiting other farms and farmers, and most exciting.......
looking forward to the delivery of Joe and his wife's baby!

Fall CSA week 3!

Welcome to week 3 of your Fall CSA!

A spiral graph? a new planet? could it be coral reef?
Is it Romanesco? Yes!
A broccoli and a cauliflower collided giving us flavors of both.
You can treat this as you do with broccoli or cauliflower. Whether it is in soup,
roasted, steamed or pureed. I know some of you will put it on your table and admire it for awhile but don't forget to enjoy it any way you prepare it.

Mark your calendars.........(drum roll)............

Bacon and hams will be ready next week! Our farm stand will be open next week
Tuesday, November 20 from 4 until 7pm. This will also be the last day of your Fall CSA share.
Please know that we do have to set a limit on certain pork cuts. There will be a two package limit for our bacon. Also, we had our hams cut smaller compared to last season so be prepared to add ham to your thanksgiving table! Like we say, "we want you to be proud of the food you serve at your table".

Your hams are fully cooked, naturally cured and smoked. You'll need to defrost your ham, depending on the size, it will take at least 24 hours in your fridge. Here is a link to determine how long to heat up your ham for it to reach the desired temperature of 160, enjoy!
brandied ham, oh my so delicious! can't decide? mustard-maple glazed ham,
orange glazed ham............

Harvested for you this week.......

maple syrup, popcorn and a good variety of produce for sale.

mustard greens

Our Farm Market Stand is now indoors! Now with the temps in the low 40s we
decided to move into our cozy indoor spot which is way cool and made out of fallen trees on our farm.
Our white tent looks quite empty but don't let that discourage you! We've got plenty
of good produce for sale, a good selection of pork cuts, apple cider, honey, pop corn and fresh eggs! Bacon and hams are not ready yet, maybe one more week..............and
I'm sorry to let you all know that our Italian sausage and breakfast sausage is now sold out.
With the overwhelming response from all of you it looks like we are going to need to raise more hogs for next year. A million thanks to your support, we couldn't do it without you.

our cozy market

The farm in your kitchen recipes.................
Your peppery mustard greens make a great side to any meal, sauteed mustard greens.
If you plan to keep your red cabbage until Thanksgiving be sure to wrap it up in a plastic bag (that's what those are good for!) and put it in your fridge.
Here is a great recipe once you're ready to use it, braised red cabbage.
Ah glorious spinach! best baked spinach!
Don't think of it as just a garnish! Give parsley a chance and add it to soup, toss with some boiled potatoes, steep it fresh (at least 4 minutes) for tea, add it to your salad. You'll need to either wrap it up in (another) plastic bag and keep it in your fridge or place them in a glass of water. They will keep fresh for about a week but don't wait that long! Easy parsley salad
These radiant round gems scream "slice me into a salad and toss me with citrus!"
Jamie Oliver......one of his many great recipes, roasted carrots and beets with juicy pork chops
We have a good selection of pork shoulder roasts still available. Chris makes the BEST
pulled pork but his recipe is kept a secret. For now let's take a look at another one from
