CSA Week 4

Hello from the farm!

***Right off the bat we want to remind LOGAN SQUARE SHAREHOLDERS that the Logan Square Market is taking this Sunday, July 4th off. There will be NO CSA PICK UP THIS WEEK for

Logan Square folks. We will be adding another week at the end of October to make up for this.

It will be business as usual for our ON FARM SHAREHOLDERS on Wednesday, July 3rd.

We will see you On Farm folks at the usual 4 -7 pm pick up spot!

The Sky is Still Blue Up There

I do believe we are having a bit of a drying out period here.

The frequent rain we have been having for the past several weeks has

done incredible things for the crops that were planted back a month or two.

Our 1300 tomato plants are turning quickly into waist high beauties

and our thousands of globe onions are starting to bulb up nicely now that the

days are starting to get longer following the summer solstice.

The weeds are surely enjoying the weather too. Monstrous lamb's quarter, fragrant velvet leaf

as well as pig weed and the dreaded Canada thistle are all trying to stake their claim

in our vegetable fields.

With steady rain comes a lot of bounty but also gives us the challenge of

seeding and transplanting new crops into the soil so we won't end up with any gaps

in the production schedule. Our seeding and transplanting schedules look

great on paper in the early spring but, come summer and the real world and

things start to really pile up.

We will keep trying and maybe some season in the future the rains will fall and the

sun will shine according to our elaborate plan. Or maybe we will keep guessing and life will remain endlessly changing and fascinating. Let's all hope for the latter!
Enjoy the bounty of the farm!
